Last night marked the end of our 6-week Acting Monologue for the Camera course, and what an incredible experience it has been! The energy in the room was electric as we closed out the class with special guests Devin Bundrent, Talent Agent at Heyman Talent, and Jessica Mathis, an award-winning writer and producer. Their presence added a layer of insight and inspiration, underscoring the importance of what we’ve been working on together over the past six weeks.
This wasn’t just an acting class—it was a human journey. We didn’t just focus on techniques or tools; we delved into what it means to be human, to feel deeply, and to express those emotions truthfully. Here’s a recap of the beautiful, transformative work we did each week:
Week 1: Authenticity & Heart
We started with the foundation—authenticity. The heart of acting lies in drawing from our own experiences and emotions. We practiced being vulnerable in front of the camera and explored how to bring real, and being our raw emotions to the surface.
Week 2: Imagination & Play
Next, we tapped into our imagination. Through creative exercises and improv, we explored the endless possibilities of character development. We learned that imagination is the key to unlocking characters that live beyond the script.
Week 3: Being Present
We worked on grounding ourselves and being present in the moment. Being fully engaged with our scene partners and the emotions at hand, without anticipating the next moment, allowed the work to flow more naturally.
Week 4: Collaboration
This week was all about the art of collaboration, both with our fellow actors and the crew behind the scenes. We used Viola Spolin’s improv techniques to explore the importance of ensemble work and staying connected in every moment.
Week 5: Education & Growth
We emphasized the idea that acting is a lifelong journey. There’s always something to learn—whether it’s from classes, life experiences, or mentors. We discussed how every challenge, every opportunity is a chance to grow both as an actor and as a person.
Week 6: Script Analysis & Performance
In the final week, it all came together. We dove into script analysis, breaking down the text to understand the deeper meaning of each line. Then, students performed their monologues, living fully in their characters and owning the moment on camera.
A Night to Remember
As we wrapped up this class, we reflected on how much everyone had grown. This class became more than just about acting—it became about healing, self-discovery, and transformation. It was a place where people could be themselves, explore their depths, and truly connect with others.
We look forward to welcoming new students in our next session in November. If you’re looking for more than just acting lessons, if you’re ready to explore your humanity and connect on a deeper level, this is the class for you.
Thank you to everyone who made this journey so special. See you in November!
